Byubyusara Ryskulova and violence against women in Kyrgyzstan

Byubyusara Ryskulova is a founder of Women’s Crisis Shelter ‘Sezim’ which has been working in Kyrgyzstan since 1998. The shelter provides legal, medical and psychological assistance to women who are living in abusive families, usually surviving violence from their male partner. ‘Sezim’ works 24 hours a day and runs a hotline. It is also considered to be one of the few Kyrgyzstan’s  service organizations for women.

I plan to interview Byubyusara for GenderStan on the issue of polygamy and domestic violence, as well as their experience with working on the issue of substance abuse.

  1. I am Managing Editor of an international news and opinion website (see address above) which runs only articles authored by women around the globe. Our writers now represent a collective of over 40 women who hail from over 20 countries (from Argentina to Zimbabwe!) We have no one in Kyrgyzstan. A Women’s Crisis Shelter in ‘Sezim’ would be of great interest to us. Also anything letting us know about your part of the world. Please contact me! Thank you!
